International Baccalaureate Curriculum (IB)

Your child has just one chance to be the best s/he can be and therefore deserves the very best education you can offer them. In the words of a Chilean teacher, Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957):

“Many things can wait. Children cannot. Today their bones are being formed, their blood is being made, their senses are being developed. To them we cannot say "tomorrow." Their name is today.”

At Greenfield Community School, we believe every child is entitled to a first class education, in excellent facilities, with outstanding educators, celebrating diversity, showing respect for and integration with our host country, developing global mindedness and strong values, through a gold standard international curriculum.

International Curriculum

Greenfield Community School opened its doors for the first time in September 2007. It is our intention to implement the International Baccalaureate's (IBO's) three programmes meeting the needs of children from 3 to 18+.  This world renowned curriculum gives access for Diploma graduates to the top universities and higher education establishment’s world-wide, as well as preparing them to become global citizens.  We are proud to be a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate Organisation’s Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and, eventually, the Diploma Programme (DP). Greenfield Community School also plans to organise the school and establish the curriculum so that it will be able to pursue authorisation as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy - a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Greenfield Community School believes is important for our students.

* Only schools authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as IB World School can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme. Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorisation will be granted.

International Baccalaureate Curriculum overview

The Primary Years Programme (PYP), for students aged from 3 through 11, offers an integrated curriculum enabling students to learn through guided exploration and structured inquiry.  Students are taught to understand how they learn best as individuals, and to develop a genuine love of learning.  In addition to establishing firm foundations in good learning habits, we educate our students in global issues, including environmental, diversity and cultural understanding, and all our students learn Arabic. The emphasis is on the education of the whole child; emotionally, physically and intellectually.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP), for students aged from 11 through 16, builds on from the knowledge, skills and attitudes to learning, developed during the PYP.  Traditional academic subjects are offered: Mathematics, English, Arabic, Science, Humanities, Technology, Art, Drama, additional languages such as French, Spanish and German, and Physical Education.  These create a well-balanced curriculum, which is then supported by the areas of interaction of approaches to learning, community and service, homo faber (the creativity of humankind), environment, health and social education, which permeate through the academic studies.  The MYP is an excellent preparation for the IBO Diploma Programme.

The Diploma Programme (DP), for students aged from 16 to 18+, is a challenging, international education programme, preparing students for life after school, including entrance to the world’s leading universities.  As well as studying six academic subjects, students develop themselves personally and academically through the Theory of Knowledge classes; Creativity, Action and Service commitments: and the challenges of extended essay writing.
