Extra Curricular Activities Programme
Dear Parents / Guardians, 17th September 2009
Please find attached our Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) Programme for Term 1. Our student and staff are looking forward to a rewarding ECA programme in Term 1. I believe we have once again come up with an extensive and diverse programme that offers our students a wide and balanced variety to choose from.
Choice of activities.
The Teacher-led activities and the Paid activities are separate this year. Please contact Mr. Matt from Libra at matt.doran@libra-uae.com for all Paid activities. Students are eligible to choose two (2) Teacher-led activities and an unlimited number of Paid activities. Please indicate your first, second and third choices in the Choice column by using numbers 1, 2 or 3.
Return date for forms.
An email stating your child’s preferences should be sent to the following address reception@gcschool.ae or a hard copy can be returned to the class teacher by Wednesday 23rd September. Placements will be decided on a first-come, first-served basis. Places are allocated as emails are received and as forms are returned. Requests received after Wednesday 23rd September will go onto a waiting list. Please assume that your child has been accepted unless contacted by me or the administration staff. Ms. Sandra our receptionist is assisting me this term.
Starting and finishing dates.
The Teacher-led activities will commence on the 27th September and will run until Wednesday 25th of November. The starting and finishing dates for the Paid activities that are offered by outside coaches and individuals are determined by these entities. Please contact Mr. Matt.
Starting and finishing times and pick-ups.
All Teacher led activities start at 2:30 and finish at 3:30. Teachers will take activity students to the designated meeting area at the line-up area near the cafeteria’s side entrance between 2:20 and 2:30. Activity leaders will pick students up for their activities from the meeting area at 2:30 and lead them to the activity venues. Parents must collect students from the class or activity area at 3:30. Please ensure you arrive at school in good time to collect students promptly from the activity area. Ensure that the teacher is informed when the student is picked up. Students’ safety is our priority. Students that are not collected within 5 minutes after the end of the activity will be left in the care of Mr. Matt from Libra and will be billed by Libra for childcare services. Parents should contact administration if they are running late. Parents’ being late puts unnecessary stress on the students. In the event of students being picked up by an adult other than parents / guardians please ensure that the activity leader is notified by a note in the student’s home-school communication book or by a phone call to the school receptionist.
Late bus.
We are delighted that there will be a late bus service for students taking part in ECA activities. The buses will leave after the activities. The option is not available for non-bus users. Please ensure that you indicate your need for the late bus service on the preference list. The deadline for reserving a place on the late bus is Thursday 24 September. Requests received after this date will not guarantee a place on the late bus.
Football and swim squads.
In line with other prominent schools in Dubai, the focus of Term 1 will be on football, netball and swimming for interschool competitions. The interschool football matches will start in the week beginning 11th October. Teams from Gr. 3 to Gr. 6 will take part in the league. Students will be invited to join the squad training and those students who are not selected will have the option to take part in the non-squad football activity. Swim squad training will be twice a week and invited swimmers can train once or twice a week.
PLEASE bear in mind that swim squad training is for invited swimmers only. Swimmers will be given the opportunity to take part in trials on Sunday and Monday 27 and 28 September. More information will follow. Only students capable of swimming at least 20 lengths are invited to sign up for the trials. Selected swimmers will be invited next week. In the past we had children sign up for swim squad that could not keep up with the rigorous training. The selection of the swim squad is done by the Physical Education staff that closely monitor all students’ abilities and progress. Bear in mind that swimming lessons are offered by Speedo Swimming Academy. Other interesting additions to the activity list are the introduction of a circuit fitness club, chess club, German and French clubs. The popular Manic Monday club will cater for girls from Grade 3 to 5 and will focus on self-esteem and confidence enhancement through activities such as debates, cheer leading, public speaking, dancing and mentoring. Various art clubs are also running. We are again looking forward to a great term of activities. Please feel free to contact me when needed at reception@gcschool.ae or speak to the Greenfield Community School Administration staff.
Yours sincerely Ben van Rooyen ECA Coordinator
