KHDA/DSIB Recommendations & Action Plan for GCS
Recommendations:
1. Raise the levels of attainment and progress in the MYP and improve the quality of teaching there by:
o Providing a high quality professional development programme to reinforce the IB method and subject expertise at the secondary level; o Enhancing the staffing expertise by adding specialists with suitable degree-level qualifications in the subjects taught 2. Improve arrangements for social guidance and careers counseling in the secondary phase: 3. Raise students’ awareness and appreciation of local cultures and tradition.
Action:
1. As a result of the annual KHDA DSIB School Inspection the following action table has been developed to ensure that we address the key recommendations outlined in the report with regard to raising levels of attainment and progress in the MYP. This table highlights GCS’s plan of action to recommendation 1 and includes subsection 1a and 1b and acknowledges the key features of the school.

2. A new teacher has been appointed for September 2010. Her qualifications are in psychology and counseling. She will be involved in teaching within the PSHE programme and in running a counseling service for students in the secondary phase. Taaleem are also looking to recruit someone for guidance counseling across all their Dubai schools to help with higher education entrance.
3. There are several ways this is being addressed: a. Additional staffing hired for September 2010, including one to replace a colleague considered to be under-performing and therefore not having her contract renewed. b. Central training opportunities, through Taaleem, for all Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers in Taaleem schools has been recently implemented, second and third terms 2010. c. Central training opportunities, through Taaleem, for all Arabic staff involved in teaching the IB programme has been recently implemented, second and third terms 2010. d. Dedicated but changing display of Arabic artefacts in the school entrance. e. Gradual replacement of mono-lingual signs with bi-lingual (Arabic-English) to be completed when Phase 2 opens in September 2010. f. Arabic greetings at the school gate each morning by a rotation of Arabic staff. g. Showcasing students’ work about the UAE. h. Introduction of a unit in the curriculum of the Arabic language about culture and customs of the UAE for Grade 4 onwards. i. Showcasing the UAE for the students and their parents through school functions and activities e.g. International Day, Iftar buffet, learning the national dance Al-Yolla.. j. Free Arabic lessons for parents every Wednesday.
k. Question and Answer presentations for improving UAE cultural awareness e.g. Juma Al Majid Heritage and Cultural Centre “The history, present life, local traditions and culture of the UAE”, Holy Month of Ramadan information about Islam for non-Muslims. l. Playing and singing the UAE national anthem every morning at 07:50.
