Students at Greenfield Community School, a Taaleem school, have actively participated in various charity events held at the school this academic year, to help raise money for those less fortunate or affected by natural disaster.
The 1st Charity event was for Misión Child, an organisation that helps the needy children in Colombia and it is our goal at Greenfield Community School to raise enough money to sponsor the salary of one teacher every year. Students and parents at GCS far exceeded our expectations on the 1st of October by raising 27,000 AED in sponsorship from friends, family, neighbours and parents, for participating in our Minute Marathon. Events included bouncing a ball, writing your name, putting pegs on a line, single skipping rope, collecting balls, running between cones. Students participated in each event with great enthusiasm and an enjoyable day was had by all! Our goal was to raise $6 000, and as we surpassed that goal, we donated the remainder of the money, 5 000 AED, to help the flood victims in the Philippines. Our 2nd Charity day saw students run or walk as many times as possible around the school's football field in 30 minutes. Students raised gift boxes for labourers, cleaning and security staff at the school. Parents and friends donated over 200 shoe boxes with everyday items inside. In a moving ceremony, student Council members first sang the UAE national anthem and then handed out some of these boxes to the labourers of Jasaf Construction who are building Phase 2 of Greenfield Community School. These boxes show our appreciation for all the work they have already completed and that which is still to come. The cleaners and security staff also received gift boxes to show our gratitude for the continued good work and support they bring to the school.

Grade 7 students raised money for Haiti by organising a Fun Day. The day’s events included a casual dress day, jumping castle, music, face painting and games. The event was solely organised by Tess, Giulia and Alex who, organised the donation of a jumping castle, bought the face paint and created the games for the children to play. It took the girls over an hour to set up the day’s events and at the end of the day they felt very proud of their accomplishments.
Our 3rd charity event was in aid of a local charity organisation, The Dhaka project. Parents, students, friends and family donated clothes, stationery, and sports equipment. Students also had the opportunity to make friendship bracelets, which they could give to friends or send to the children of Dhaka and donated AED 10 towards the project. Students also arranged a casual day for everyone and students were allowed to show their support for their favourite World Cup football team.
This year Greenfield Community School have shown that they are a caring community and we look forward to the next academic year and many more successful charity events.
